Usage guide

No special care is needed. This explains how to use Mimon, which grows with your everyday browsing, and its optional notification features.

This site is an introduction and usage guide. Your own Mimon's settings and album are checked by opening Mimon from Chrome's extension icon. This site cannot load your growth data or change your settings.

The extension's screens and Mimon's speech are currently in Japanese. Button names in this guide are given in English with the Japanese label that you will see in parentheses.

Raising it and opening the settings

  • It grows little by little with your normal browser operations such as clicking, scrolling, typing and focused time. There are no feeding or playing buttons.
  • Its look changes through four stages: egg, baby, child and adult.
  • Click Mimon to check and set its name, display scale, Google Calendar, weather, generation, attribute and next egg.
  • You can choose a display scale of 2x, 3x or 4x. The default is 3x (48px). A changed scale is saved and the same size is used next time.
  • While it is an egg it does not speak, and clicking it does not open the settings. To change settings, open Mimon from Chrome's extension icon.

Within the same Chrome profile on the same device, the same one Mimon grows in every tab. About storage and transfer

If it's in the way: move or minimize

Grab and move it, or toss it

Grab Mimon on the page with the mouse or trackpad and move it. If you stop and then let go, it drops straight down; if you let go while moving, it flies according to the momentum and then lands at the bottom edge of the screen. Eggs can be moved too.

This is not a feature for pinning it at a position in mid-air. After landing, it may start walking again after a while. A plain click opens the settings of a hatched Mimon.

Minimize with “−”, restore with “+”

Press “−” next to Mimon and it shrinks, leaving only a “+” where that button was. The “+” does not walk and stays in place. Press “+” and Mimon returns to its original position.

The moved position and minimized state apply only within that page. They are not carried to other tabs, and reloading the page returns to the normal display and initial position. Growth state and the album are not lost.

The next egg and Mimon's album

Welcoming the next egg

After it becomes an adult, keep using your browser together; when the condition is met, the settings' 「次の卵」 (next egg) shows 「迎えられます。」 (you can welcome it).

  1. Press 「次の卵へ」 (to the next egg).
  2. Read the confirmation and choose 「卵を迎える」 (welcome the egg); it becomes the egg of the next generation.

It never becomes the next egg automatically. You choose when to welcome it.

Its grown looks are kept in the album. When welcoming the next egg, it also checks that the adult picture has been saved before going ahead. If saving does not complete, it stops and stays as the current Mimon.

Looking back at each generation's growth

  1. Open Mimon from Chrome's extension icon. After hatching you can also open it by clicking Mimon on the page.
  2. Press 「ミモンのアルバム」 (Mimon's album) in the settings and the extension's album opens in a separate tab.
  3. In order of generation — first, second… — you can look back at that generation's baby, child and adult pictures. Each picture keeps the name and the recording date at that time.

One picture is recorded each time it grows into a baby, child and adult. If the current look has not been recorded yet, it is recorded when you open the album. Adult pictures saved earlier are carried over as they are. Looks and dates that were never recorded are not guessed, and generations before the album existed are not restored. While it is the first egg, an empty album is normal.

The album is stored only inside Chrome on this device. If you remove the extension it is deleted, and reinstalling cannot restore it. About saving and backups

Weather and event notifications

Weather

Start from 「現在地で天気を使う」 (use weather at my current location) or 「地域を選ぶ」 (choose a region) in the 「天気」 section. While a region is chosen by hand, location is not used. It notifies at most once each in the morning, noon and night.

「天気の地域」 (weather region) shows the current forecast area, and 「現在地から自動判定」 (automatic from your location) or 「手動選択」 (manual selection) shows the method. To change a manually chosen region, press 「地域を変更」 (change region).

Open 「位置情報の連携方法」 (how to connect location) in the settings to read how to check permission and how region selection works. Weather in detail

Google Calendar

Authorize with your Google account from 「接続」 (connect) in the 「Google Calendar」 section and Mimon tells you before events in your primary calendar start. The explanation of the connection can also be read from 「カレンダー連携について」 (about calendar connection). Calendar reminders in detail

Both are optional. Turn weather off with 「停止」 (stop) and Google Calendar with 「解除」 (disconnect); growth continues as usual.

Troubleshooting

Mimon doesn't show up
If only a small “+” is visible, it is minimized. Press “+” to bring it back. It cannot be shown on Chrome's settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, the PDF viewer and similar. On an ordinary web page, check that Mimon is enabled and that access to the site is allowed. For a tab where it does not appear after an update, reload that tab.
Weather shows “waiting for permission”
Open 「位置情報の連携方法」 in the settings and check the location settings of Chrome and your OS. Even if you can't allow it, you can use 「地域を選ぶ」 (choose a region).
I can't see the event or weather bubble
A web page where Mimon appears must be open. It does not speak while it is an egg. These are not OS notifications that arrive while Chrome is closed, and depending on the browser's state they may be delayed or not shown.
It looks different in different tabs
Normally the same growth state is shared. If a display from before an update remains, reload that tab. If it isn't fixed, tell Support with the version and the steps that led to it.

Saving and transfer

Pick up in your usual Chrome.

Currently, growth state and the album are saved inside the Chrome profile of the device where Mimon is installed, and loaded the next time it opens.

A profile is the usage environment you switch with Chrome's profile icon. It is separate from the Google account itself.

Using the same device and the same profile
Even if you change tabs or windows or restart Chrome, you continue from the saved Mimon and album.
Using a different profile on the same device
Growth state and album are separate. If you newly install Mimon in another profile, it starts from a new egg.
Using another computer
Even if you use Chrome or Calendar with the same Google account, Mimon's data is not synced. In a newly set-up environment, it starts from a new egg.
Several people sharing one profile
Mimon does not tell people apart, so they share the same growth state and album. To separate them per person, use separate Chrome profiles.

Google sign-in is for event reminders.

Google Calendar authorization is only for reading events and notifying you. It is not used to identify the owner of Mimon or the album, nor for syncing or backups. Even if you disconnect Calendar, growth state and the album remain.

Before you delete

There is currently no transfer between devices, export/import, backup or restore feature. If you remove the extension or the Chrome profile, the growth state and album inside it are lost too. They cannot be recovered by reinstalling or reconnecting to Google.

If something isn't working, first try reloading an ordinary web page or restarting Chrome. Do not remove and reinstall the extension to try to repair growth data.

Only if you want to delete all data, remove Mimon from Chrome's extension management page (chrome://extensions).

To delete only the weather region and forecast, use 「停止」 (stop); to delete fetched events, use Calendar's 「解除」 (disconnect). For details, see the Privacy Policy.
